Vaccinations for Puppies

We love seeing your puppies here at Drovers Vet! It is great to be part of their first weeks with you settling in to the family. The first course of vaccines as a pup is critical for your dog.

This primary vaccine course will set up your pup’s immunity to serious diseases such as Parvovirus and Distemper, which are life threatening when they occur. Vaccines also provide protection against Kennel Cough, a debilitating respiration infection.  Recommended vaccination schedules may vary between vet clinics.

At Drovers Vets we follow the recommendations set out by the Australian Veterinary Association, based on a large amount of reliable research.

For the safety and continued health of your puppy we recommend a C3 vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age, followed by a C5 vaccination at 12 weeks, and again at 16 weeks. The main reason for this is that puppies vary in how long they carry their mother’s antibodies in their blood. Some have them up to 16 weeks of age! This essentially means some pups may not have an effective immune response to the vaccines until the third (16 week) dose.
