WA Weekender Part Two: Microchipping and Sterilisation

Our second segment on WA Weekender aired on Channel 7 yesterday afternoon. This fortnight’s show was filmed at the Midland Vet Hospital where Dr Martine chatted to the lovely Dan Paris about microchipping and sterilisation. With the recent introduction of new cat laws in Western Australia last year all cats now must be both microchipped and sterilised by law.

Microchips are about the same size as a grain of rice and are injected under the skin in a similar way to a vaccination. We show Dan how this is done in addition to checking Eddie the chocolate Burmese to ensure his chip is still working properly.

We also showed some behind the scenes footage of what is involved when your pet comes into our hospital to get sterilised. Our sterile surgery is fully equipped with high end monitoring equipment to ensure your pet is in the safest hands. We place intravenous catheters in all animals receiving sedation or anaesthetics and strongly recommend administration of intravenous fluids for all procedures.
